Questions, answered.
Everything people ask us, roughly in the order they ask it.
No questions match that. Try another word, or ask us.
Ordering
Do I need an account?
No. You send a request with your name and an email address or phone number, and we give you an order number. That number and your contact detail are all you need to track it.
How do I order from the shop?
Add things to your order request, then send it with your details. We check stock and confirm by email, text or phone within one working day. Nothing is reserved or charged until we’ve confirmed with you.
How do I get a price for my own design?
Upload an STL, 3MF or OBJ on the custom prints page. You’ll see an estimate straight away, worked out from the same rates we use in the workshop. When you send the request we check the file by hand and confirm the final price before printing.
Can I change or cancel an order?
Yes, until it goes on a printer: just reply to our message or call. Once it’s printing we can usually still change the colour of the next copies, but not the one on the machine.
Do you design things, or only print them?
Mostly we print. For simple replacement parts (a bracket, a knob, a clip) we can often measure the broken one and draw it up; we’ll quote for the drawing time first. For anything bigger we’ll point you to a local designer.
Paying
Why cash only?
We’re a small workshop and we like it simple: no card fees, no payment details to look after, and no one pays for anything before it exists. You pay when the part is in your hand.
When do I pay?
When you collect, or on the doorstep if we deliver. Never before. The price we confirmed with you is the price you pay.
Do you take a deposit?
Not for ordinary jobs. For very large orders (over $300, or more than 50 copies) we may ask for a cash deposit in person before we start, and we’ll tell you when we confirm the price.
Will you ever ask for card details?
No. We never ask for card or bank details, by email, text, phone or on this site. If someone does, it isn’t us: please tell us.
Do you give receipts?
Yes, a written receipt with every order. If you need a proper invoice for a business, ask when you order and we’ll bring one to collection.
Pickup & delivery
Where do I collect?
From Pickup by arrangement, Newdale. Pickup arranged by message.
Can someone else collect for me?
Yes. Give them your order number and have them bring the cash.
Do you deliver?
Not at the moment: all orders are collected from the shop.
How long do you keep finished orders?
Thirty days. We’ll send a reminder after a week and another after three. After thirty days we recycle the plastic.
Files & quotes
What files can I send?
STL, 3MF and OBJ, up to 50 MB. 3MF is best, because it records its units. If your program only exports STEP or its own format, export an STL at high resolution.
Why might the final price differ from the estimate?
The estimate assumes the model is a clean, closed solid printed the way it’s drawn. If it needs repair, a different orientation, extra supports or splitting, the time changes. We always tell you the final price before printing.
My model came out tiny (or huge). Why?
STL files don’t store units, so a model drawn in inches reads as millimetres and comes out 25.4 times too small. Change the file units on the quote page, or use the scale converter.
Is my file kept private?
Yes. Your file is only used to price and print your job. We never share it or print copies for anyone else, and we delete uploaded files a year after the order unless you ask us to keep them for reprints.
Materials & quality
Which material should I choose?
For most indoor things, PLA. For clips, hooks and anything that gets knocked, PETG. The material guide has the detail, and we’re happy to advise.
Are prints food safe?
No printed part is food safe as it comes off the printer, whatever the plastic: the layer lines trap bacteria. Fine for a cookie cutter used once; not for cups, plates or chopping boards.
Will I see layer lines?
On filament prints, yes, faintly: that’s how they’re made. Our Fine setting (0.12 mm) makes them much smaller. We can sand and prime parts for painting on request.
What’s infill?
The inside of a filament print isn’t solid: it’s a lattice (usually a gyroid, a wavy pattern that’s strong in every direction). 15–20% is right for most things; 40% or more for parts that take load; 100% for small parts that must be as strong as possible.
Problems & reprints
Something’s wrong with my print.
Tell us within 14 days. If it’s our mistake (a print fault, the wrong colour, the wrong size) we reprint it free or give your money back, whichever you prefer.
It doesn’t fit the thing it was made for.
If it matches your file but the file was out, it’s not a fault, but we’ll reprint it at the cost of the material and machine time only, with no setup fee. Bring the thing it has to fit if you can, and we’ll help you adjust the design.
It broke.
Printed parts break along their layers when they’re overloaded. If it broke in normal use within 30 days, we’ll reprint it once in a stronger material or orientation at no charge.
